Our range of organic pigments
What are organic pigments?
Organic pigments are pigments that contain carbon atoms which form strong stable chemical bonds always present in animal, vegetable, and synthetic organic chemistry. Synthetic Organic Pigments are carbon based and are often made from petroleum compounds, produced under intense pressure or heat.
Organic Pigment Properties.
Organic pigments are usually bright, pure, light in weight and rich in tinting strength.
Choosing Organic Pigments
When it comes to deciding whether to use an organic or inorganic pigment, the following must be determined:
Is the opacity of the pigment a driving attribute?
Is the vibrancy of colour the key criteria?
Is the ability to withstand weathering paramount?
Organic pigments tend to generate brighter and richer colours than inorganic pigments, they are usually more prone to fading when exposed to sunlight than their inorganic counterparts. Many organic pigments, when applied in a single layer, are incapable of generating a surface coat that will completely hide the undercoat, while inorganic pigments generally have much better opacity.
Examples of organic pigments include Phthalocyanine blue or green, Quinacridone red or violet, the common thread is that carbon is present in their molecular structure.
